As the saying goes “Practice goes deeper than theoretic knowledge.” , it’s time for us senior students to practice teaching in school after three years’ accumulation of knowledge. However, it’s the first time for us to put what we learned into practice, so we are still in the dark about teaching. In order to help us, our dean, Gong Fanyuan, gave us a lecture about some skills for teaching on Tuesday afternoon.

He started from the skills for the teaching of letters. Firstly, he presented us a picture of American Sign Language, finger spelling of alphabet, a traditional way for the teaching of letters in America, which he thought is a good aid for the teaching of letters. In addition, he suggested that we can associate the corresponding phonetic symbols and words when teaching letters, because it’s a easy way for students to remember.

Besides the skills for the teaching of letters, he emphasized the importance of singing songs in the English class. Finger song for the teaching of numbers, action song for the teaching of body parts are all good examples. Speaking of the English teaching, games surely play a vital role. Therefore, in order to make us feel the pleasure in the learning while playing, Mr.Gong played three games with us－ number counting, riddle guess and Bingo, which leads the lecture to the climax.

Finally, he gave us some advice on our teaching practice and training in school. That is, be innovative in English teaching, revise the teaching plan often, and practice more with classmates.
